![]() Mt San Antonio College Upon completion of this program, the graduate will be functional in sign language and will be able to interpret in a variety of situations. The program provides an overview of the Deaf community, careers working with Deaf people, teaches American Sign Language, offers specific interpreting courses, and includes training in the ethics and practical approaches that must be understood by a practicing interpreter. Students who complete the required courses listed below and who also complete the graduation requirements of Mt. San Antonio College will be awarded the Associate in Science Degree in Sign Language/Interpreting. |

![]() Golden West College The Interpreting for the Deaf program at Golden West College is designed to provide students with sign and interpreting skills sufficient for general entry-level employment in the interpreting profession. Emphasis is on use of American Sign Language, but other forms of signed English are used. The coursework is designed to provide basic information about deafness and other areas of knowledge related to interpreting. It also includes classes for building interpreting skills and supervised interpreting experience. |

![]() El Camino College El Camino College offers an Associate Degree or a Certificate of Achievement in Sign Language/Interpreter training. The Sign Language/Interpreter Training Program provides instruction in the language system most used by deaf persons, American Sign Language (ASL). Students learn general communication skills in sign language classes. Advanced technical proficiency may be gained through interpreter training classes for those seeking a career or part-time employment as an interpreter for the deaf or hearing impaired individuals. In addition to the Sign Language curriculum, El Camino also has as ASL Laboratory that is open to students who wish to view Sign Language tapes or meet with other people to practice their signing skills. El Camino also has an on-campus Sign Language club, "The Hands of Friendship". |

Interpreter Training focuses on developing and utilizing American Sign Language skills to provide communication access for persons who are Deaf or Hard-Of-Hearing. The successful student has many career opportunities to choose from upon completion. |
