CEUs for Academic Coursework

Description

CEUs may be awarded for Academic Coursework taken from an accredited institution and completed during the participant’s current cycle. This accreditation must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the U.S. or the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education in the European Union. Any other institution must be reviewed by the RID Professional Development Committee. Successful completion is defined as receiving at minimum a letter grade of C (2.0) or pass for pass/fail courses.

NOTE: If the participant is auditing the course or taking it through the continuing education office of the institution, they should contact a Sponsor to complete a Participant Initiated Non-RID Activity Plan (PINRA).

Process

At least 21 days prior to the end of your certification cycle:

Request approval of your activity by submitting SCRID's AC Request Form. Upon submission you will be emailed a copy of your response, with a link you may use to return and add additional information, before and after the activity. Keep this email for further use. The following information will be requested in the form. Supporting information is provided as needed.

1. If course information will enhance your interpretation skills, yet course content is not readily seen to fit Professional Studies CEU requirements, please inform the sponsor. Additional requirements may be added to verify application to interpreting and allow for approval of PS rather than GS credits.
2. RID converts Academic Coursework credit on a basis of 1 quarter credit = 10 contact hours (1.0 CEU) and 1 semester credit = 1.5 contact hours (1.5 CEUs).

Upon SCRID CMP approval of your activity:

Submit payment for academic coursework sponsorship by clicking on the item shown at the bottom of this page. If you are a SCRID or RID Region V Affiliate Chapter member, the cost of each activity is $25.00 per activity. You must be logged into your SCRID account to receive the member rate. If you are not a member, the cost is $50.00 per activity. This payment is non-refundable. Payment must be received before paperwork processing can begin. Note: SCRID Certified and Associate members may have one AC or PINRA CEU activity processed at no charge, per year. If you are a SCRID member and wish to use this benefit, please inform the CMP when they reach out to you with acceptance of your request. They will ensure this benefit is recorded and will process your activity at no charge.

Upon receipt of all required submissions, the Sponsor will review and submit credits to the RID. Please allow up to two weeks post submission for your CEUs to be processed.

Housekeeping

RID forms and procedures are subject to change without notice. SCRID's procedures will change to reflect RID requirements.

SCRID is audited by RID to determine if RID’s procedures/guidelines are adhered to for approving workshops/events. Failure to pass the audit would result in SCRID losing sponsorship status. We ask you to keep this in mind as we work together to gather information for sponsorship.

You will automatically be sent a copy of your form submissions. Please preserve copies of all submitted documents and information for your records.
