Earn Participant Initiated Non-RID Activities (PINRA) CEUs

Description

Participant Initiated Non-RID Activities (PINRAs) are activities an interpreter/transliterator wishes to attend which are not offered by an RID approved Sponsor. The activity must be sponsored by an organization with standards specific to its area of expertise. The activity must have a defined format and clearly identified educational objectives. If the activity's application to interpreting is unclear, the applicant should provide a single page or more describing how attending the activity will improve the applicant’s interpreting work. Administrative paperwork is processed by the Sponsor.

NOTE: Participant must apply for and receive approval from a Sponsor prior to the commencement of the activity.

Process

At least 21 days prior to the activity:

  1. Choose the activity you want to attend.  If an activity is mandatory for your job, it cannot be used to acquire CEUs.  You also cannot earn CEUs if you are working the activity, e.g., interpreting.
  2. Complete the online form Participant Initiated Non-RID Activities form (PINRA). Be prepared to upload the following documents, in PDF format, into the form:
    1. Activity Theme or Focus: this may be the course brochure, flier, pdf of course website, or etc
    2. Registration Verification
    3. Activity agenda, or other documentation that identifies content and hours, to enable the Sponsor to verify the appropriate number of CEUs and content area.
  3. Submit your request. You will receive email confirmation of your submission. Save this email, as you will return to the link it provides to edit your submission upon completion of the activity.
  4. Once your request has been received, SCRID's CMP Committee will contact you. You will be advised of acceptance status, as well as the approved Content Area (Professional Studies or General Studies) and the number of CEUs allowable.
  5. Upon approval, submit payment by clicking on the item shown at the bottom of this page. If you are a SCRID or RID Region V Affiliate Chapter member, the cost of each activity is $25.00 per activity.  You must be logged into your SCRID account to receive the member rate. If you are not a member, the cost is $50.00 per activity. This payment is non-refundable. Payment must be received before CEU’s can be awarded. Note: SCRID Certified and Associate members may have one AC or PINRA CEU activity processed at no charge, per year. If you are a SCRID member and wish to use this benefit, please inform the CMP when they reach out to you with acceptance of your request. They will ensure this benefit is recorded and will process your activity at no charge.


Within 30 days following the activity:

  1. Return to your submission by using the link provided in the confirmation email (see step 3, above). Upload the following:
    1. Participation/Attendance Verification. Verification may be in the form of a certificate of completion, signed statement by the presenter accompanied by a selfie or online platform screenshot, etc. Or you may use one of these proof of attendance forms to assist you, which are to be signed upon completion.
  1. If the application to interpreting is unclear yet you feel the information will augment your interpreting work, you will be required to submit rationale in support of Professional Studies CEUs. Submission must be EITHER a 1-page typed, or 3-minute signed minimum. Clear application must be provided to warrant PS CEUs. PLEASE DISCUSS IF THIS IS NECESSARY WITH YOUR SPONSOR IN ADVANCE OF THE ACTIVITY.

Upon receipt of final submissions, the Sponsor will review information for completeness, and submit your credits to the RID. Please allow up to two weeks post final submission for your CEUs to be processed.

Housekeeping

RID forms and procedures are subject to change without notice. SCRID's procedures will change to reflect RID requirements.

SCRID is audited by RID to determine if RID’s procedures/guidelines are adhered to for approving workshops/events.  Failure to pass the audit would result in SCRID losing sponsorship status.  We ask you to keep this in mind as we work together to gather information for sponsorship.
